The speculation about The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
